Urinary Tract Infection Home Remedies

Urinary tract infection or UTI is one of the leading causes of trips to the doctor for women. Women get them more often than men because of the way we are built. There are two specific types of uti's also known as bladder infections. Bacterial cystitis is caused by bacteria and interstitial cystitis or chronic urethritis is a non-bacterial form. We'll discuss both here.

Your mind will be like its habitual thoughts: for the soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts. Marcus Aurelius

Bacterial cystitis

From the book Healthy Healing, by Linda Page, this type of a urinary tract infection can be caused by

-a staph, strep, colibacillus or a rhinitis cold infection, aggrivated by the overuse of antibiotics.

-chlamydia infection.

-fecal bacteria, usually E. coli that migrate up the urethra.

-stress.

-spermicides and contraceptives.

-kidney malfunction.

-food allergies.

-lack of adequate fluids.

-aluminum coodware.

-poor elimination.

-tampons or diaphragms pinching the neck of the bladder, hampering waste elimination.

I had this infection once and my doctor told me that it was caused by having sex. My husband worked out of town and didn't come home very often so sex was far and few between. The doctor said that because I wasn't used to it, it caused irritation which let the bacteria get ahold.

For men the cause can be prostrate trouble not letting the bladder empty completely, or sex.

-cranberry caps every 3 hours.

-grapefruit seed extract caps, 2 daily, and a glass of water with 1 tsp. baaking soda in it.

-cantharis (homeopathic) can sometimes stop a uti immediately.

To curb pain and inflammation use cornsilk caps or uva vusi tea daily.

To re-establish vaginal flora to reduce recurrence rate us a lactobacullus suppository, or 1 Tbsp. acdiophilus powder in warm water as a douch for 4 days after treating a uti with antibiotics.

Make sure to drink plenty of water, fruit juice (fresh squeezed if possible), and vegetable juices. Avoid coffee, pop, sugar, and spicy foods. Some antibiotics could even irritate the infection. Make sure to eat unsweetened plain yogurt or take a good probiotic. This is a good preventitive measure to do all the time. If you get urinary tract infections after sex, make sure to urinate before and after. And always wipe from the front to back after going to the bathroom.

As painful as any urinary tract infection can be, I do remember that, practice prevention to save yourself the misery. Keep your immune system strong and drink plenty of fluids to keep your bladder flushed.
