Opinions Page 2
I've been pondering on what to write for the opinions page 2 for awhile. The mosquito season gave me an interesting subject. I was listening to the local news yesterday and heard something that made me start thinking. They said that more people we getting infections from mosquito bites than before. The way my mind works I instantly started wondering why. I really doubt that the mosquitoes are the cause of it. I work in a grocery store and we sell tons of hand sanitizer. The stuff that kills 99 percent of all bacteria and germs. Well it not only kills the bad ones, it also kills the good ones. Most of it contains triclosan, I hope I spelled that right. It is a dangerous chemical that kills all bacteria. I've heard rumors that it could be banned, some hospitals have already. My thinking is that because so many people are using hand sanitizers that kill all the bacteria, including the good, that when a mosquito bite itches and you scratch, you don't have any good bacteria left to fight an infection. I'm waiting to hear what the doctors are going to prescribe for the mosquito bite infection epidemic! To me it sounds pretty convenient for the big money makers. Maybe the pharmaceutical companies will have to come up with a cure. Wouldn't that sound funny in the newspapers. Of course they would have to give it a scary name and get the fear in us. Or they can just let it ride on the West Nile Virus scare. I'm sure no matter what the cause, they will blame it on the mosquitos. There will be no mention that it could be a chemical that is approved by the FDA that would be at fault. Not that I am sure that it is. I feel my opinion is very logical though. Or maybe all the chemicals they spray the mosquitos with to kill them has caused them to mutate and become more dangerous. That is also a possibility. But that is not the mosquitos fault. They would just make a new, more deadly chemical to use on them. I hate to say it, but the more chemicals out there the more deadly our environment is. Not only for the mosquitos, but us too. Does anybody know the results of all of the man made chemicals when they interact with each other. I think not. With the exception of total destruction of the world as we know it.
