I am going to share some household cleaning tips with you. Made from natural products, of course. I am one that really does not like to clean house. It's a thankless job. It just gets dirty again anyway! But it is a job that I find can be fun if I make it that way. Natural cleaning products give off a smell that just seem to help the attitude. And when it comes to house cleaning my attitude definitely needs help.
I'm not like those cleaning pros that have all the neat little tricks. I'm just a lady that wants to get the job done quick and be done with it.
The race is not always to the swiftest, and the battle not always to the strongest, but that's the best way to bet. Folk Saying

I'm going to start with odors. That's my pet peeve. With three big dogs in the house and sometimes smokers, when I open the door and smell the house it's terrible. Even if the house has been cleaned it can has suspicious odors and not smell clean.
Household cleaning tips for odors.
Vinegar-set cute little bowls around the house with any kind of vinegar in them. I use apple cider vinegar because it adds a fresh smell.
The vinegar will absorb odors, especially cigarette smells. I use this in my car before anybody gets in it. I put a bowl with vinegar in it and close the windows overnight and it smells fresh again.
This works great in the house too. It doesn't just cover up the smell, it actually absorbs it. You can wipe down your cupboards with vinegar to get rid of fish smells in the kitchen too. Or onion, or about anything you cook.
Household cleaning tips for carpets.
Do you have carpets? I have carpet in my house that has to be from the '60s' era. It is ugly brown and orange shag. When I moved into my house it smelled like a lot of cats used to live here. I tried shampooing it and when a certain area got wet, well, it nearly gagged me. I tried the store bought odor remover powder and it stunk about as bad. When it's smell was gone, I could still smell cat. Even with dogs in the house, their smell didn't cover it.
I sprinkle baking soda on my rug and let it sit for about an hour. Then I vacuum and just like magic, the cat and dog smells are gone. The baking soda absorbs the smell. It doesn't just cover it up like the powder I bought. The dogs don't necessarily like it. They have to roll all over and try to make the carpet smell like dog again. I do still smell dog after a week but I haven't smelled cat for over a year. The dogs just don't think they stink! If I did this more than once a week they would just roll on my carpet more.
My household cleaning tips for odors concerning the kitchen sink drain is a natural remedy too.
I told you I don't like to clean house so once a week I clean my sink, maybe. I spray it down with lavender essential oil mixed with water in a squirt bottle daily. The lavender essential oil kills the germs that cause the odors. Just put 4-5 drops of the lavender in a squirt bottle filled with water. Spray everything. And it smells good too.
This is good for the cold and flu season to kill bacteria and viruses around the house. This is one of the household cleaning tips I use often. It doesn't have to be wiped off. Just spray down the kitchen, bathroom, door handles, light switches, hands (don't wipe your eyes), anything at all.
If you haven't been killing the germs that cause the odors in your sink, then your drain might start to smell. Just pour some concentrated lemon juice down it. Let it sit in the trap for as long as you want. That is where the water and stuff sit and start to smell. Just turn on the water and flush it on down the drain. The lemon smell will linger.
Lemon juice is also the perfect grease cutter. Wipe off the stove with it after frying bacon, or chicken. You do need to rinse off the surface or you will have streaks. I just wet my dish cloth, pour a little lemon juice on it and wipe. Rinse the dish cloth and wipe again. It will also remove the fried food smell.
Have you ever poured the hot grease down the drain? Or not cleaned the hair out of the shower enough and the drain slowed down or plugged? I'm sure I'm not the only one. My household cleaning tips for the drain are from personal experience.
I use baking soda and vinegar to unclog drains. I pour about a cup of baking soda down it, then pour about a cup of vinegar down it. It will fizz and bubble. I usually pour another cup of vinegar down it and it bubbles more. Let this sit about an hour. Then run the hot water to flush it down. If it didn't get it, do it again. Sometimes a slight plunging with coax it the rest of the way.

Since I put this page up I have had numerous e-mails asking me for household cleaning tips for getting old, moldy smell out of dresser drawers, or any wooden drawer.
What I would suggest is taking a lemon or orange peel, slicing it and drying it. You can put it in the oven on a cookie sheet and leave it overnight if you have a pilot light. Or you can put it in the oven on 300 degrees for an hour or two. Just enough to dry the natural oils up. Put a slice or two in the drawer. This will give off a nice scent while it obsorbs the nasty odor. Depending on how bad it smelled to start with will determine how long it will take to absorb it. You are the judge of that. You can also use these household cleaning tips to keep stored clothes from getting the stale smell. Just wrap a piece of the dried peel in a paper towel and put it in the container with the clothes.
Another question I have been asked by a few people is about refrigerator smell.
My household cleaning tips to get rid of frige odor are to wipe it out with a paste made with baking soda and water. Make sure to cover everything, the crisper and racks. Rinse it well. Turn it on real cold for awhile. You can set a box of baking soda, or a bowl of vinegar or lemon juice in it. That helps to add a fresh smell. I always clean mine with a baking soda paste. Just make sure to rinse it well. You'll get white powder all over otherwise. I put a bowl of vinegar in it for an hour or 2 before I put the food back in. Just put your food in a cooler for awhile. If you put the food back right away it doesn't give the air room to circulate and absorb the odor. If the smell is too bad, go buy a new one!
I remember years ago we moved into a beautiful house that had been the site of a drug bust. The marshals just trashed the place and left it that way. The frige was full of food and they shut the power off. The smell was enough to make you throw up. We duct taped it shut and took it to the dump. I don't know of any household cleaning tips that could have helped it.
Here's a list of most of my household cleaning tips supplies.
