Make your own home remedy for pink eye. Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is a contagious condition. It is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane covering the eyelid and eyeball. It is normally caused by a virus, bacteria or allergy.

How do you know it is pink eye?

Symptoms

-The white part of your eye is pink or red

-One or both of your eyes itch or burn

-One or both of your eyes are watery

-One or both of your eyes have a yellow-green discharge. (This is a sign of a bacterial infection or allergy).

The most important home remedy for pink eye is to wash your hands with soap and water after touching the infected eye. This is a very contagious condition. Make sure no one uses your wash cloth or towel. Lavender essential oil is anti-viral and anti-bacterial. You can mix a few drops in a squirt bottle with 1 cup of water and spray your hands to disinfect them.

O.K. now for the cure. I always choose the natural route of treatment. I believe the herbs were put here for us to use to the best of our knowledge. As long as you know what you have and know how to use herbs, there are few if any side effects. That is a whole lot different than the pages you get with prescription drugs. A home remedy for pink eye is safe and really works.

The following are some of my recommendations.

Natural Home Remedies

-Tea-Black or green will both work. Just get a bag wet with warm water and put it on the infected eyelid (close your eye first) for a few minutes. This helps with the inflammation. It also fights the viral or bacterial infection. Doing this could prevent the spread of the infection too.

-Goldenseal-Make a tea and let it cool to room temperature. Sterilize a small eye cup, or tea cup. Fill it to the brim with the tea. Put your eye in the cup and blink for a minute or as long as you can. Do this 2 or 3 times a day until gone. This herb is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. You can also use the method above for the tea.

-Eyebright-Use this herb in either method described above. It is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory plant. Use this for any eye irritation.

-Yarrow-Use either method. This is anti-bacterial and reduces inflammation.

I have had good luck with all of these remedies. When my kids were little we had the misfortune of an outbreak. I think the best advice to follow is to keep the infection from spreading by disinfecting with lavender essential oil while you are dealing with the infection itself. If you let it pink eye will just keep coming back. So go whip up a cure with natures help. Natural home remedies rule!
