Home Remedy Blog, Purely Natural
A man walks into a psychiatrist's office waving his hands in the air, as if he were brushing away swarms of mosquitoes.
"Why are you doing that with your hands?" inquires the doctor.
"To keep the African lions from attacking." the man replies.
"But my good man," responds the psychitrist, "the nearest African lions are 10,000 miles away."
"Yeah" replies the man with a confident smile, "it really works, doesn't it?"

Jan 21, 2008, The Trials of Quitting
I want to apologize first of all for not keeping up on my blog and site. I have been fighting urges to smoke every time I walk into this room to sit in front of my computer! I have cut down considerably on the cigarettes I am smoking, but, here comes the big butt, I have not completely quit. My main hazardous areas are sitting in front of this computer and talking on the phone. I have been avoiding both as much as possible, obviously.
I have found what works for me the best to quench the cravings is a supplement called 'I-Quit'. I just happened across it at Vitacost and ordered it. I would not be doing as well as I am without it. I definitely recommend it as an aid if you are serious about quitting.
So now that you know I have not just been lazy or ignoring you I feel much better. In all reality I have been very busy in my personalized herb selling business here. I have had lots of orders I have to research, grind, cap and deliver the finished product. It seems there are a lot of digestive problems this time of year. I am happy to say I have many satisfied customers.
A plus to that is less urges and time to smoke! I will quit completely in time. Hopefully soon.

Sep 28, 2007, Recipes for a Yeast Infection (Candida)
I have had several requests for recipes that you actually can eat and still beat a yeast infection. I have been looking for an e-book that passes my expectations and have found one that is fairly good. Purefoods Candida Cleansing Diet does have some good recipes that should satisfy you during the healing time. I may just have to write one myself! But don't hold your breath for awhile.
I seem to stay extremely busy and think I have more time in the day than I do. Or maybe I have too many irons in the fire at one time. Either way I never seem to get it all done in the time I think I should. Something I need to work on!
Anyway back to yeast. Foods to emphasize, according to Dr. Elson M. Haas are:
All vegetables - meats - poultry - eggs - fish - whole grains - beans - nuts and seeds - butter - cold pressed oils - lemon - fresh fruits. Avoid: all forms of sugar - alcoholic beverages - fruit juices - dried fruits - refined flours - breads - baked goods - vinegars - pickled vegetables - cheese - mushrooms.
I do hope the recipes in the book above help make life easier for you during your healing time.
Sep 14, 2007, Changing of the Seasons
It certainly feels like fall today. There is a definite chill in the air. I have covered my tomato plants for a few nights now but so far it has not frosted. With the changing of the seasons the popular OTC drugs change too. We are out of allergy season and into the cough and cold season. We have one girl at work that has pneumonia already. A few others have called in sick and still more are working with the sniffles.
That in itself is proves to me that the OTC drugs do not work to make you better. I try to live by the thought that no bug or germ will survive in a healthy host. I try to keep my immune system as healthy as I can all year round. I do not run when I get close to someone sick like a lot of people do. I believe that some exposure will strengthen my immune system. So far it has not let me down.
Immune SystemHealth has suggestions and supplements for all your immune system needs. I personally take mushrooms and astragalus year round. Garlic is also something I supplement with year round, Kyolic brand, to be exact. I steer far away from the antibacterial soaps, triclosan scares me. I firmly believe we have to be exposed to germs and dirt to develop an immunity to most diseases.
If you seem to catch everything that comes around it would make sense to give your immune system some help. The changing of the seasons is a great time to start protecting yourself from those winter time sniffles.
Sep 4, 2007, Fertility Drugs or Natural Herbs?
I have a friend that has been trying to get pregnant. She finally resorted to fertility drugs and they did work. She went in for an ultrasound and saw one baby in the uterus and one in the fallopian tube. The next week the one in the tube had not grown so the doctor told my friend it probably will be be absorbed by the body. I sure hope so. With all the news about multiple births to women taking fertility drugs I am glad my friend will only have one child at a time! I tip my hat to the families that have more than one child at a time. One is enough work, I have several sets of twins in my extended family, those families had to make a lot of time for the babies.
Enhance women’s fertility with a whole herb nutrition kit! Millions of Americans struggle with fertility problems. Most can overcome them with simple lifestyle changes and natural therapies. For women, hormone imbalance, an aging egg supply and reproductive blockages are the biggest conception inhibitors. But before you spend thousands of dollars on fertility treatments, explore your natural options. A good diet and lifestyle is critical for at least six months before trying to conceive for both partners. In addition, whole herb nutrients provide ideal support for the special needs of a mother-to-be. Woman's Fertility Kit may be all it takes along with a good diet and a healthy lifestyle to conceive and give birth to just one child at a time. In my opinion it would be worth a try first.

Aug 29, 2007, Quality and Quantity Count
I have had several e-mails with questions about the kidneys. I have recommended the usual herbs for kidney health, dandelion, burdock and milk thistle. But the problem is without talking with a person and knowing just what is really going on in their life, I really can't recommend much. I suggest they find an alternative or holistic practitioner. I know there are many Chinese herbs that have been known to work for years (although the research has not been done or proven). And there is a problem there too. Without knowing the source of these herbs, they could be contaminated with chemicals.
The good news is there is a place you can buy clean, organic herbal combinations for your kidneys and other health related conditions. Their formulas are stronger than most so they may cost more than most. But you are getting more quality and quantity for your buck.
Healthy Living Solutions, Inc. is where you should look if you are serious about natural healing. Some people just dabble in home remedies, others (like me) make it a way of life. I figure the money I save on doctor visits and prescription drugs is immense since I have hepatitis C and do not go to the doctor or use their drugs. I spend a fair amount of money on herbs and organic foods, but nothing compared to the other bills I could have. And I am much healthier than the majority of people I know.
There is a difference in the quality and quantity of herbs with different companies. I was looking at some of the vitamins we sell at work, it turned me off of ever buying any of them. The chewable vitamin C has aspartame in it! I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. It pays to know which companies market good products.
Healthy Living Solutions, Inc. is where to shop for quality kidney herbs.
Aug 23, 2007, Part Two
Judicial Watch (the investigative public interest group that obtained the FDA data under the Freedom of Information Act) noted in a press release that 77 percent of the adverse reactions were considered "typical" vaccination side effects, while the remaining 23 percent included more serious side effects, such as seizures and Bell's Palsy. And death.
One of the patients who died suffered a blood clot three hours after receiving the vaccine. Two other patients (aged 12 and 19) died from "heart problems and/or blood clotting."
This is unbelievably tragic – especially considering that the vaccine in no way guarantees immunity from cervical cancer. Imagine the mother who hears the wonderful reports about Gardasil, believes all the promises, and decides to have her daughter immunized, only to watch helplessly as her child succumbs to a fatal adverse reaction.
But there are plenty of heartbreaking gray areas between no reaction and death. Here are a few details from just three of the VAERS reports compiled by the FDA:
14-year-old girl – Hospitalized: Dehydration, Fall, Headache, Hyperventilation, Injection site pain, Muscle spasms, Speech disorder, Syncope (loss of consciousness due to reduced blood flow to brain), Vision blurred, Vomiting
17-year-old girl – Hospitalized, Life Threatening: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (central nervous system disorder), Hypoaesthesia (impaired tactile sensibility), Paraesthesia (burning skin sensations), Proteinuria (excessive protein in urine – kidney disorder symptom), Red blood cell sedimentation rate increased 16-year-old girl – Hospitalized, Life Threatening: Guillain-Barre Syndrome Hypoaesthesia, Muscular weakness, Paraesthesia, Proteinuria, Red blood cell sedimentation rate increased Most of the VAERS reports are listed as "not serious." Here's one of them: A 20-year-old patient experienced nausea, vomiting, and loss of consciousness. Compared to the others, I suppose that's "not serious," but I would guess it was quite serious to the patient and her parents.>P>
Here's the worst part: Judicial Watch released all of this information three months ago. Three months! After all the reassuring reports about this "necessary" vaccine, why is the mainstream media silent about the dire risks?
Once again, it's left to those of us who aren't part of the corporate machine to spread the word. Please send this to every young woman and every parent of a young girl you know. Because even the "not serious" side effects of this vaccine aren't worth the (very, very limited) benefits. This is an e-mail I received from HSI Baltimore.
I am sorry I had to put this in two entries. I can only write so many words on one entry. That is probably a good thing.
Aug 23, 2007, Is It Really A Surprise?
The most controversial vaccine on the market might be going down in flames.
So…what's that big, hollow, echoy sound you hear? That's the mainstream media coverage (or rather complete NON-coverage) of the danger linked to Gardasil – Merck's vaccine designed to protect women from human papillomavirus virus (HPV), which is one of the primary causes of cervical cancer.
The media helped promote Gardasil. Where are they now when it's obvious that young women are being put in harm's way? -------------------------------------------- Buying the company line --------------------------------------------
If you browse through a few random articles about Merck's Gardasil vaccine you'll find an abundance of favorable comments from doctors, experts, scientists, researchers, elected officials, and parents voicing their unified conviction that the vaccine is safe, effective, and even necessary.
They don't seem to understand that the moment a new vaccine is released to the public, the recipients become guinea pigs in an informal "study" that eventually reveals the true nature of the vaccine.
In the e-Alert "Every Breath You Take" (3/5/07), I told you how Merck representatives have been encouraging state legislatures across the country to make the HPV vaccine mandatory for young schoolgirls. That's right: mandatory. This initiative largely failed, and I expect many state representatives are happy they didn't back the plan because three deaths have now been linked to Gardasil.
-------------------------------------------- Serious business --------------------------------------------
According to the British Medical Journal, the deaths were reported to the FDA's Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), along with more than 1,600 other adverse reaction reports over the past year. Gardasil was granted FDA approval in June 2006.
Aug 22, 2007, Ahhh A Good Nights Sleep
This is something I know about first hand, the sleeping part that is. I am very fortunate to very rarely not being able to fall asleep and stay asleep for the night. I just flat like to sleep! There is a big population out there though that have trouble sleeping. Some causes can be stress or tension, demands and pressures. Other causes can be hormonal changes or health issues such as pain or medications. Still other causes can be drinking caffeine or alcohol before bedtime or eating a big meal late in the day.
The good news is there is help out there. Vitacost has a few products that I have seen work in my clients. NSI's Healthy Sleep is an all natural, non-addictive herbal formula containing valerian root, hops extract and corydalis extract.
NSI Melatonin Time Released contains 3 mg of the melatonin hormone that works through the pineal gland.
NSI Tryptophan is an amino acid that is found in turkey. It works as a precursor to both melatonin and serotonin, both contribute to the sleep cycle and mood.
NSI 5-HTP is a potent, natural sleep enhancer found naturally in high-protein foods. Do not use these products if you are taking mood enhancing prescription drugs or anti-depressants without consulting your healthcare professional, especially 5-HTP.
I for one, have a bottle of valerian on hand just in case I can't go to sleep. Which is very rare! I try to go to bed about one half hour before I would like to be asleep and do my relaxing exercises and meditation. It works like a charm to clear the mind and remove tension from the body and mind. And that is my sleep well routine.
Sleep is something we can not live without. It is a time for the body to renew it's energy, rest and repair and regenerate tissues, muscle and bone. It also is a time for strengthing the immune system. Which explains why some people get sick when they are worn out. It is well worth the effort to work on sleeping soundly on a regular basis.
Sweet Dreams! And when you awake, fully rested, make an herbal tea for enough energy for the day.
Aug 13, 2007, My Form Of Health and Welfare
As some of you know I work for Albertsons (SuperValu now owns it). Our store here in Lewistown is union. Our contract expired in July and we now have the opportunity to vote on a new offer. The union reps are encouraging us not to accept this offer. That could mean going on strike. Ouch! The reason the union reps think this offer is not good is because of the health care benefits. There is an offer for raises but not enough health care coverage. This is an important issue to most of the employees. I am in it for money in my pocket now and retirement. The health insurance is not on the top of my priorities, but I seem to be alone in this view. I just don't do doctor visits or take prescription drugs.
My form of health insurance is how I live day to day. Sure if I was in an accident I would accept emergency care, but other than that I take my health into my own hands on a daily basis. I support the herbal community and the organic community, not the pharmaceutical companies or the food or cosmetic additive companies. To me my health is living a natural life as much as possible. Which in turn means less of a need for health insurance.
One of the issues I deal with daily is not using toothpaste that has fluoride (toxic waste from aluminium factories) or propylene glycol (anti freeze) in it, not to mention artificial sweeteners. Wow, do we sell alot of toxic stuff! My form of health insurance is using OraMD daily. My mouth stays fresh, the plaque doesn't build up, and my gums are growing back after all these years. That saves a trip or ten to the dentist. My way is whole lot cheaper!
My form of health insurance is knowing which herbs to take for prevention, for healing and for my immune system. I have quite an extensive library of books on the subject along with a few medical ones. But that is still cheaper than going to the doctor for every little thing.
So with any luck I will still have to go to work in a few weeks and maybe have a few new clients as well. This is a scary time, but I am turning it into a teaching experience. I would like to see some of the people I work with learn they don't need the doctors as much as they have been brainwashed to think. They watch too many commercials and read (and believe) too many articles bashing the gifts Mother Nature so freely gives us for our health.
Make sure to get the report offered at OraMD, it is quite enlightening, and of course is not paid for by the pharmeucitical companies or altered by the FDA. (That probably wasn't very nice, but true!)

Aug 6, 2007, Head Lice Season is Almost Here
I have had a few e-mails lately asking for home remedies for head lice. Boy do I remember the fights with those nasty critters.
The absolulely loved my girls heads! The boys kept their hair very short and never had any problems but the girls were another story. I picked and picked. We used to joke about being a momma monkey, picking bugs!
Now is the time to stock up on head lice killing essential oils at Visit amoils.com. They have specially formulated essential oils for all sorts of conditions. I am using the one for skin tags at the moment. I just gave the one for warts to my daughter to try. I have had great luck with their formulas.
If you need a remedy right now you can try putting a few drops of lavender essential oil in some olive or jojba oil and saturating the scalp and all of the hair. It should help smother the lice. But I would recommend picking the nits out daily. It isn't that bad playing momma monkey!
Have a great day!

Aug 2, 2007, Gotta Get It Done
Ya know, somebody should tell me not to start these projects that end up taking so much time! This idea in my head of what the trim on my house should look like when it is done, well, it's too late to change it now. But the time and elbow grease, wow. I literally have not done much else with my spare time since I started this project. I have scraped and sanded and sanded and sanded and I am still not done sanding. But most of the trim will look brand new, not 107 years old. The problem I am running into, which I anticipated, is the lead based paint under the layers and layers of paint. It turns into a gummy like substance when it gets hot from the sander. But most of it is slowly comming off. This project makes my fencing one seem like a piece of cake!
I am prepared for the lead detox project when I get done. I have been taking, for the last few days, a product called HM DX made by Transformation. It is so good only a Practitioner can buy it. I am so lucky to be one! It is formulated to detox lead and mercury from the cells they lodge in. I know I have been breathing the dust, even with a mask, and it certainly gets on my skin.
Renewal Enterprises.comhas a wide variety of products. Some are Professional protocol, meaning a practitioner has to call and order, and some anyone can order off their site. Let them know Kathy sent you from this site, I think they are great enough to promote! If you find a product you need that is Professional Protocol, send me an e-mail and I will consider ordering it for you.
Well, I am off to the ladder and sander. I am a 'bit' afraid of heights, so I have been working my way up to the gable ends of the house. I am about to be forced to hang on for dear life and climb. Or maybe the top of the house will be a next year project! Yea right, I will do it now. Later.

Jul 27, 2007, Do It Yourself
I have found through the years that if you take herbs it is a lot less expensive and much more satisfying to make your own combinations out of bulk herbs. Not to mention the herbs are fresh and more potent. I have a capsule filling machine I got from Mountain Rose Herbs that I am about to wear out! I buy my empty capsules and my fresh organic bulk herbs there too. I try to buy them whole and use a coffee grinder to grind what I need as I need it. That way the herbs are much more potent. Mountain Rose Herbs sells only the best quality herbs and you can get so much more there. They offer books on herbs, teas, essential oils, herbal oils, mortar and grinder, etc.
A fantastic book they offer is "The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook" A Home Manual by James Green, Herbalist. It is a book used by Clayton College of Natural Health in the Herbal course I took. I would highly recommend it to the beginner or the experienced herb lover.
Anyway back to making your own herbal combinations. I learned a lot from reading the ingredients on the bottle of the herbs I was buying that worked. I found good reliable books that explained what each herb is for. I also found reliable books that told me how to figure out how much of which herb to use. Any of the books offered by Mountain Rose Herbs book department is as reliable as you can get. Just to know the feel, look and taste of each herb brings you closer to healing. I have a hard time explaining what I mean here. I can compare it to gardening or fixing your own car. You are part of the process and the feel of the dirt or grease makes it all real and so much more rewarding and satisfying. If that makes any sense to you, sometimes the right words just do not come to me!
And it is cheaper and healthier too! I include making your own herbal combinations, gardening and fixing your own car. Although the car part I will have to pass on anymore. My car does not have an engine that looks like the ones I knew how to fix. And I am not willing to figure it out at this particular moment!
I hope you all have a great week. Be Happy and Healthy!

Jul 21, 2007, A Little Aprehensive of Self=Treatment? Help is Here
I was talking to another Natural Health Consultant today. We were discussing the problem of clients being a bit aprehensive of using natural products. The biggest problem is satisfying the client without a doctor. Testing has become a big deal in the last few years. There are tests for everything imaginable. In the minds of most people there should be a name and a cause for all problems. That is the way of modern medicind. My way of thinking is to ignore the name of the problem. I tend to look at the habits of people. The habits tend to point to where the condition originated. Change the habit and maybe initate a little herbal help and, bingo, the problem usually fixes itself. Of course that is if the condition is not too far gone. Anyway, the point of this rambling is there is a way to get blood tests without going to a doctor.

Life Eztensionsoffers a membership by the year at an extremely lower price than going to the doctor. You can get blood tests through them and call and talk to alternative doctors, real doctors, that can help you decide which supplements or medications are right for you. They do the research on herbs and vitamins, they know their stuff. It is really a win, win solution for those that must have the testing done.
Anyway, that was the conclusion we came to. It is better to be safe than sorry. Whatever is in your mindset will determine your healing process. If you need to know for sure what the problem is and a blood test will answer that question, then please consider Life Extension. It includes the advise of doctors knowledgeable in medical and alternative medicine.

Jul 13, 2007, Itch Relief
Wow! What a job I have started by scraping the house. I am finding I am going to have to recaulk almost everything, reglaze the windows, and do a lot of sanding. I borrowed an electric palm sander which is making it a whole lot easier though. It is going to take a month or so at the rate I am going. I have been working a couple of hours a night after work when it is cooler. But then I have to deal with the bugs. We had a real wet June and the mosquitoes and deer flies are pretty thick.
A great natural itch relief is geranium essential oil in a base of jojoba or some other carrier oil. I mix 5 drops of geranium essential oil in about 1/8 cup of jojoba oil. A little goes a long way, but it helps immediatly for me. I buy my products at Mountain Rose Herbs.
While you are there a few drops of lavender essential oil in jojoba oil works as a bug repelent. I keep both on hand at all times this time of year, of course I do forget to put bug repelent on when I am at home. Not too smart! It is just a habit I am not in.
I should be writing here more often and working on my site more this summer, but I have undertaken a monster of a job and I do have to finish it. This house is old and needs its tender loving care. I do hope you are all having a great week and enjoy a happy and healthy weekend.
For those of you that enjoy (or not) cleaning house with natural products you can find some great tips here.

Jul 9, 2007, Hylands Leg Cramp with Quinine Ointment
I have found a new place to shop online. I had a client wanting Hylands Leg Cramp Ointment or Cream with Quinine and ran across iherb.com. They are really nice to work with and have a lot of choices some other sites do not offer.

And for some reason the Hylands ointment is kinda hard to find. I have had other clients use it and they swear by it for leg cramps. This client has diabetes and has been crushing the tablets and mixing them with water for her leg pain. She was really surprised when I told her they made an ointment. But I found out why when I went to look for it. It just is not so easy to find. But you can get it here.
I will get the links up on the rest of my site in a day or two. I just wanted to let you have a sneak peek. I'll write more later, some days there is just too much I need to get done!

Jun 29, 2007, Projects and Yoga
First I want to apologize for neglecting this blog. Summer is here and I seem to have a list of projects a mile long. I did finish my chain link fence in the front yard. My dog loves it, she can go out front again after almost a year. I do have a little more fencing to do at the end of the drive way and I have a big cottonwood tree to go around. But for now I have had enough fencing! Next on my list is painting the trim on the house. I have to scrape and sand most of it, my house is 107 years old. My priority is to get my pillars on my front porch smooth again.
I have had friends and neighbors telling me I should not be doing all this hard work by myself, I could hurt myself! Well, I could hurt myself more doing nothing. I will give my yoga practice for the last year most of the credit for my physical and emotional strength. I have had some very sore spots, but I look at it as a reason to work on strengthening those areas.

When you buy from the Y Catalog 10 percent of your purchase goes to an environmental project. So you could be saving your health and the health of our Mother Earth. Yoga helps build physical and emotional strength plus massages your internal organs and helps move lymph through your body. In my opinion it is the perfect form of exercise. We all need exercise of some sort for our overall health.
I have had a lot of e-mails on kidney problems. Yoga can help stimulate the kidneys to do their job properly.

Jun 24, 2007, Hard Work, Sore Muscles, Ouch!
I did not realize it had been so long since I wrote a blog. I am putting up a chain link fence around my front yard and it has turned into quite a project. I had to special order the fence and gates because of the city ordinances for height, it can only be 3 feet tall. Then the guy that figured up the list of materials goofed and it ended up costing me more than I wanted to spend. I just discovered yesterday that I don't have gate brackets either. Needless to say I will not give this company any more of my business. I said the heck with it and rented a power post hole auger since I was already over budget. My son was supposed to come in and help me, but he ended up having other things he had to do. So yesterday I dug my holes, concreted the posts in, and am a bit sore! But it is my fence and if I want it done in a timely manner I will do it myself! I am not as young as I used to be, or as strong, the auger was a challenge. After my hands went numb it was a piece of cake!
So today I am nursing the sore muscles and the sunburn on the backs of my knees. I took some Kava Kava last night to relax the muscles. It works great. I did take another one this morning although I felt pretty good. But I need to do some housecleaning and wanted to be able to move without too much pain. I am putting some strong green tea on my sunburn and it is taking the red out.
I always take milk thistle along with Kava Kava to protect my liver. I do not know if it is really necessary, but after they pulled it from the market for causing liver damage (the girl was drinking lots of alcohol) I just want to be safe. You can find any of these products here. I buy the box of 100 bags of Prince of Peace green tea, you can not beat the price!

So now I have to wait for the concrete to set before I stretch my fence. My dog it not waiting very patiently to go out into the front yard. It has been almost a year since we took the old fence down. In another week she will be happy! The things I do for my dog! She also gets herbs since she is getting old. I buy the Animals Apawthecary Senior Blend from Mountain Rose Herbs. It seems to keep her from getting stiff joints, maybe I should try it!

Jun 20, 2007, Protect Your Brain From The Industrialized World
How many of us use cell phones? I do. Have you heard the scary news? Use the Cell Phone Protector when talking on your cell phone in order to reduce the amount of radiation your brain is exposed to. Depending on how close the cell phone antenna is to the head, between 20% and 80% of the radiation emitted by a mobile phone is deposited in the user's head. The microwave radiation is absorbed by and actually penetrates the area around the head, some reaching an inch, to an inch and a half, into the brain. Protect yourself by ordering our radiation protector. Global Healing Center
These can be found under the tab Organic Living. I love this site, it has a bit of everything. Form detox formulas to saunas, look them over, I tend to do a whole lot of wishing here. Maybe someday if I ever get rich enough to just buy what I want when I want! I do use the cell phone protector though. I treasure my brain, it is the only one I have.

Jun 8, 2007, The War On Drugs
I really get a kick out of the so called war on drugs. What a contradiction, our government has waged a war on illegal drugs like cocaine and herion, but in contrast has waged a selling and pushing binge on over the counter and pharmaceutical drugs. We are a nation hooked on drugs of the legal sort. Which kind kills more people? In my opinion the legal kind. Doctor caused deaths are climbing daily. Mistakes in prescription drugs are on the rise. I have been afraid to take any of them most of my life. Another problem is that our government really wants to make herbs illegal for us to purchase without a prescription. Do they really want to kill all of us off? Or maybe just throw us in jail for taking care of ourselves.
I think the trend of more people using natural alternatives for their major health care is a step in the right direction. Of course the government and pharmaceutical companies (which seem to be partners) are getting scared and are waging a war on herbs! I do think they will loose this war just like they are loosing the war on drugs. We as a people are just not that controlable.

Learning Herbs is a great place for those of you that want to learn the herbal basics. They offer great lessons and give the most wonderful recipes for products you use daily. I look forward to their newsletters, they are always packed full of useful information, and recipes (I love to learn to make my own products). It is rewarding, fun and good for my health, and the health of our Mother Earth.
I myself have staged my own war on drugs. I maybe should not do this at work but I do tend to give suggestions for natural remedies when I am in the over the counter drug isle. We do sell herbs and vitamins at Albertsons too, so I try to confine my suggestions to what we have to offer. I hand out my web address for this site and encourage people to try the natural remedies. It is much safer and a whole lot cheaper to the pocket book than the drugs available in that isle or the pharmacy. Some people are very open to suggestions, some are not, but if we use our common sense we can help our bodies heal themselves without dangerous drugs.

Jun 7, 2007, Natural Help for the Face or Body
Dry skin, oily skin, normal skin, acne or pimples, or wrinkles. All these conditions may be helped with just one product. Skin So Silky Facial is a natural product of pure essential oils in an oil base that helps normalize the skin. I know, you are thinking that a product made with oil can not possibly help oily skin or pimples. This can, it absorbs and moisturizes deep down, it makes you look younger, it gives the skin a natural glow, it appears to shrink pores for a smoother complexion, and wrinkles appear to diminish. I was skeptical until I tried it. I am at the age where the wrinkles are not something I am looking forward to, they are there. Or should I say they are vanishing! I have been using the Skin So Silky facial formula for about 2 months now. I do not cringe when I look in the mirror anymore, in fact I kinda like it. I have just started using the body formula and it makes my skin feel baby soft. I have every expectation that it will continue to help the biggest organ (skin) in my body stay healthy for a long time. It beats the heck out of buying lotion from the store that have chemicals in them that actually clog the pores and are very drying to the skin. Not to mention the chemicals that soak through and have to be filtered by my liver.
I guess that must be one fact that a lot of people do not think about. I heard one lady at the store the other day telling a friend that.... 'it's O.K., I'm just putting it on my skin for a rash, it won't hurt me'. Well she is wrong. Your skin absorbs everything you put on it right into the blood stream. And then your poor liver has to deal with it. It's no wonder so many people have liver problems. And a lot of them do not get those liver problems from indulging in too much booze.
Protect your whole body and benefit from looking younger and more beautiful by giving Skin So Silky a try.

Jun 2, 2007, Positive Affirmations For Health
While I was studying tonight, yes I do do that, I ran across an idea that has been around for over 100 years. The problem with this idea is most of us do not practice it at all.
Dr. Henry Lindlahr, in the book Philosophy of Natural Therapeutics, suggests that positive affirmations are great for our health. He lived from 1862-1924. I had not realized that the idea of affirmations had been around that long. He says "the cells are not able to reason upon the truth or untruth of the suggestions conveyed to them from the mind. They accept its promptings unqualifiedly and act accordingly. Thus, if the mind constantly thinks of, say, the stomach as being in a badly diseased condition, unable to do its work properly, the mental images of weakness and disease with their accompanying fear vibrations are telegraphed over the efferent nerves to the cells of the stomach, and those become more and more weakened and diseased through the destructive vibrations sent to them from the mind."
He goes on to say "the forgoing explains why affirmations of health are justifiable in face of disease". He already knew the mind, body and spirit connection and had put it in writing in the late 1800s.
Affirmation Software Affirmation Goal Setting Motivational Software, For Improved Mental/physical Health, Personal Growth. This software is easy to use and it only takes 10 minutes a day to train you to think positive thoughts. It is rather mind blowing to realize that we are what we think.

Jun 1, 2007, Foods For A Yeast Infection
I have had some e-mails lately asking what to eat for recurring yeast infections. My answer would be more like what not to eat. Sugar of any kind. I am afraid that includes starches because they turn into sugar. Most yeast infections are caused by candidis albicans overgrowth. Candidia feeds on sugar. So cutting out absolutely all sugar is very important.
[ Fight Candida Yeast, Naturally ]. Your complete natural Candida solution. The only product that effectively addresses candida overgrowth while reducing yeast "die off" symptoms. Helps cleanse and normalize yeast overgrowth with powerful antiseptic and antifungal herbs. Helps rebuild internal environment and enhance immunity.
Some people get a yeast infection after they have used antibiotics. That is because the antibiotic has killed off the good bacteria in your gut. Eating a good quality yogurt without any added sugar will help restore the good bacteria. If you get recurring yeast infections you may need to resort to herbs plus diet. I have never had the 'pleasure' of a yeast infection so I have not personally tried the remedy. I have had clients use this product and diet plan with close to 100% success. It takes persistance and will power! But what is the alternative compared to long term health. A candy bar or a yeast infection. The choice is yours.

May 25, 2007, Help for Liver Diseases
I have had a few e-mails lately asking for help with liver cancer and cysts in the liver. This is serious business when the liver gets sick. If you eat, drink, touch, or breath it, your liver filters it. Most of us over work our livers on a daily basis. It gets tired and full of toxins and can not keep up.
The medications the doctors give us are most times to relieve the symptoms which do nothing for addressing the problem. And the liver has to filter out the medications too. That puts even more stress on the organ.
The best advice I can give you is to send you to LifeExtension.com . They have a wealth of medical information that is available along with alternative solutions. They offer blood tests without a doctors order and you can call and talk to their medical/alternative doctors about the results and work out a solution that is right for you. They offer high quality supplements that they have developed and if you become a member you get a lot more benefits.
I can't say enough about Life Extension. I have used their services and they are execellent.
The first advice I would give anyone is to recommend Milk Thistle. This plant will help regenerate the liver. It is a great help in preventing liver disease and may help the liver survive all the abuse we give it. A great preventative measure is to avoid any unnecessary chemicals, OTC drugs, tylenol especially, food additives, chemicals in cosmetic products, sugar, hydrogenated fats, I guess most anything that is forgien to the body. And think positive.
Another step that may help the liver is to use a castor oil pack placed on the liver overnight. This has been known to stimulate the liver and help detoxify it. It may also help break up cysts. I have heard it recommended done every other night for a few weeks.
If you really want to help the liver recover please go to LifeExtension.com and give it some serious thought. It could just save your life.

May 23, 2007, Is Fido Really Healthy? (The Dog I Mean)
I don't think my dogs think they are 'my dogs', I think they think I am 'their human'. That was a mouth full!
I don't feed my dogs like most people do. They get meat, fruit, vegies, bread, anything I eat. I do feed them some dog food, but they get more real food than commercial dog food. They get their fish oil capsule everyday. I catch a lot of guff for that one, but they are healthy and have soft shiny coats. They love onions, which I know are supposed to be bad for them, but they don't get much. I think it's kinda like a person, you can have a little of everything, within reason.
Click Here! Why Dogs Don't Eat Kibbles is a book that gives the does and don'ts for all 'dogs humans' to know. It even gives you recipes for making your dogs food. I found it quite useful for telling me what is good for them and what is not.
Of course as my dogs human I need to know what is best for them. They do let me know if they like it or not. My dogs are talkers, we have quite the interesting conversations! I have been on the phone and my dogs will start talking to me, the people on the other end get quite a kick out of it. They do let me know what they want in no uncertain terms. And needless to say they get it, I am 'their human' after all.
Take good care of your pets and feed them what is right for them to give them a long healthy life. My dogs are rottweilers and rot-mix so they are prone to kidney disease. I feed them the necessary food and herbs to protect them from that paticular disease. It pays to know what they need for their good health as much as knowing what is good for your own kidney health.

May 18, 2007, Menopause Relief For Hysterectomy Victims
I have been searching for an answer for my sister who had a hysterectomy a few years ago. Well, I have good news for her I hope. I recieved a newsletter from Dr. Susan Lark that has an article on gamma oryzanol.
It seems gamma oryzanolis a substance found in rice bran.In two studies with women who had had hysterectomies taking 100 mg of gamma oryzanol three times a day for 38 days, the results were 67 percent of women say their symptoms cut in half.
In another study, 40 peri-menopausal women took 300 mg for 4-8 weeks. 90 percent saw improvement.
No negetive side effects were reported. But the women who took gamma oryzanol reduced their cholesterol and triclyceride levels while increasing beneficial HDL.

Gamma oryzanol also goes by the name of ferulic acid. It could be worth a try.
My sister also had her gallbladder removed. Learn how to practice prevention or eat right after removal for optimal health.

May 12, 2007, Nothing Works Like Citrus In The Kitchen
I bought the book 'The Naturally Clean Home' by Karyn Siegel-Maier awhile back and have been trying out her house cleaning recipes ever since. Today I tried one that I really like. I have vinyl floors in my kitchen and this works execellent.
Citrus Floor Cleaner
1 gallon hot water2 tablespoons liquid castile soap15 drops sweet orange essential oil8 drops lemon essential oil or 1/4 cup lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a large bucket, or in the sink like I did. Dip mop into the bucket and squeeze out excess liquid. Clean floor by working in sections, using short strokes and dipping mop as needed. Rinsing is not necessary.
It did an execellent job of cleaning up the dirty dog foot prints and general kitchen dirt and grease. When I drained the sink, I have stainless steel, it left it clean and sparkling.
I bought the book and all the ingredients, except the water of course, at Mountain Rose Herbs. This book is full to the brim with outstanding natural recipies for cleaning the whole house from the bathroom to the oven. It is a must for anyone who enjoys a truely clean house without any unnecessary chemicals.

May 11, 2007, Celebrate The Small Stuff
Some people would say I am easily amused. And I think I would agree with them. It does not take much to tickle me pink. Just like this morning, I used a bar of the first batch of soap I made all by myself (with the help of a book).
It is awsome! I added honey and oatmeal and just a hint of peppermint essential oil. It softens (honey), exfoliates (oatmeal, and is anti-bacterial (peppermint and honey), plus wakes up the senses in the morning (peppermint).
I will confess I cooked it a little too long, it got darker than it should, but it still cleans and I am excited! I only waited the long three weeks for it to dry. You really should wait longer and the bar will last longer, but just like a kid waiting for Santa, I could not resist this morning. Now that is probably being easily amused!

I got the book 'The Natural Soap Book' by Susan Miller Cavitch at Mountain Rose Herbs. Plus I ordered the essential oils from them. I buy my organic bulk herbs, capsules, tea bags, herbs for my dogs, etc. from them too. Everytime I go to their site I find more I need. They are just the best. I guess you could say I am easily amused when I visit them too!
With Mothers Day just two days away I am going to give Mom a bar of my soap to try too. She appreciates the simple things in life, must be where I got it. And she also likes to avoid the unnessary chemicals that are in almost everything sold in the grocery store. I would imagine that is a big reason she is the only person I know who is 88 and takes absolutely no prescription drugs. Just taking the ibuprofen for her hip is not making her happy! She had never taken one in her life until this year.
Anyway, I do hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy life and nature as it is. If you look for the beauty in things, you will find it. It is nice to celebrate the small stuff.

May 9, 2007, Camping Season
Camping season is officially here starting Memorial Day weekend. At least in Montana that is. Yesterday it definately felt like summer, about 80 degrees and beautiful. I mowed the grass, tilled up the garden spot and just lounged in the sun for awhile. An awsome day.
It is time to get that camping gear out and dusted off. If you knew what my basement looked like you would say I should have started a month ago! See what you have and replace what is old and worn. Safety is a major asset out in the woods. Be prepared. At Camping & Outdoor Products from Kalyx.com you can get anything from a simple tent, sleeping bag, or camp stove to a GPS system, first aid kit, outdoor heater, night vision, hachet and ax. Just about anything you could possibly need.
When the kids and I lived in Alaska we lived in tents for awhile and then in a bus. Having a good rain proof tent is a must and some wool blankets that keep you dry. I'm not sure I am ready to camp for very long yet, but a weekend would be fun. When you live that way it is alot of work. The best part was no telephone, electricity, TV etc. And we all worked together and played together. There is something about spending time with nature in her simplicity and beauty that brings out the best in us.
When you go camping be prepared with a natural first aid kit, you never know when that earache or toothache will strike.

May 8, 2007, All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.
I am still amazed how great my teeth and gums have felt since I discovered OraMD. If I told you your oral health could improve as much as mine has would you try it too? I'm gonna tell you anyway.
After the dentist told me he could do nothing for an abscess I had above one of my teeth I started doing some research. Toothpaste is extremely hazardous to your health and your oral health. Household Products
Toxnet No to mention the whole cosmetic industry. So did I mention that OraMD can help you fight bad breath, gum disease, cavities, and help your gums grow back when they are healthy again? Well it can. I am proof enough.
My gums were receding bad enough that the dentist told me I was going to loose my bottom front teeth. I came home singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth". It has been three years and I have not gone back to the dentist. I bought a simple teeth scraping kit from the store and went to work on my plaque. I have been using OraMD for about a year now and my gums are healthy again and growing back. It is exciting to know that I saved the $5000 the dentist quoted my to 'fix' my teeth.
I still have my own teeth and my money. I can smile a lot bigger and eat corn on the cob and apples. Even ice cream does not bother my teeth anymore. It is just amazing. I have set such a good example of showing my gums off to my friends they now use it too. And I have to tell ya, they love it. You will too.

Apr 30, 2007, The Meaning Of Self-Help
I remember when all the self-help books got real popular, I was going through a separation in my marriage at the time. I went to the book store and found myself a book on being 'hooked on the idea of being in love'. Ya know, it really taught me to look at myself and dig a little deeper. I realized I was in a way addicted to love. That may sound stubid or like a song, but I realized I did not need the love of a man to love myself. My husband and I got back together after that but it didn't last long, I don't think he liked the idea. He was very controlling and I wasn't very controllable anymore.
The same idea goes for self-help for your health. The body, mind and soul all are intertwined. You can think yourself into illness. My point being, knowledge of how to be healthy, truely healthy, can create health. I have hepatitis C but I do not dwell on that fact. I live each moment to the fullest and truely enjoy life. In my opinion that keeps my body healthy which can keep those nasty viruses under control.
So self-help includes the mind, body and spirit. One can not be truely healthy without the others. Self Healing Expressions has a variety of programs, each for a paticular need in your life, to explore the healing process holisticly. Healing of the mind, body or spirit is really a healing of all. One can not truely be done without the other. It is a life long commitment to happiness and health.

Apr 29, 2007, Create Your Own Brag Site
Tonight is prom night for my youngest daughter. She was just here with her date and friends. They look so grown up and elegant. I was trying to figure out how to get the picture on here, but if you waited for me to do that it would be tomorrow.
I can do it with no problem on the regular web pages because Sitesell has a graphics manager I can put the pictures in and push a tab and they go where I want them. But the blog is a different story and I would have to find the html code to do it myself. So under the circumstances use your imagination!
Speaking of Sitesell, they are having their May Day sale. I know you can figure this stuff out better than I can. Create your won brag site or a site on whatever interests you. For and extra humdred dollars you can give your mom the gift of a website for Mothers Day. You can create a business online, create a second income, create whatever you want. Sitesell has changed my life and given me a way to help educate people on natural ways of healing. So what is your passion?

Apr 24, 2007, Natural Ant Buster
With spring just around the corner, still, the ant problem comes with it. I have found that ants, and mice, do not like peppermint or citronella. Essential oils work great on windowsills, doorways under the kitchen sink, anywhere ants will go. It doesn't take much, just a few drops, wipe surfaces down and watch the little critters scamper away.
I hope you all enjoyed Earth Day and thought of some great ways to protect our Mother Earth. Natural lawn and garden care, plus pest control is one simple and inexpensive way to do your part. If you have animals and use chemicals please realize the chemicals soak through their precious feet and right into the blood stream. Protect them too by using natures own gifts.
Have a great day!

Apr 14, 2007, The Mis-Use of Melatonin
I was talking to my friend Peg in Alaska last night and she told me something that really worries me. She told me she knew people who were giving melatonin to their very young children to put them to sleep.
Just some info on melatonin that you should know before you use it.-it is a hormone produced by the pineal gland-it regulates your sleep/wake cycle-if you supplement melatonin longterm the body may shut down its own melatonin production-high levels of melatonin can be found in delayed puberty, narcolepsy, obesity and spina bifida -the recommended dosage on a standard bottle of melatonin are suggested for a person weighing 150 pounds
It is highly recommended to have your levels tested to see if you need extra hormones before you supplement with them. Melatonin is a hormone.
Life Extension Blood Testing is a great foundation where you can get blood tests without a doctors prescription. You have the opportunity to call and talk to doctors about your results and get their opinion on if and what you should supplement with.
If you have not signed up for my newsletter, Points to Ponder, please do and find out more about melatonin, the pros and cons.
And please do not give it to your little ones, they are too precious to risk their future. A simple herb tea like camomile is great for relaxing and going to sleep peacefully.
Have a happy and healthy weekend!

Apr 11, 2007, Arthritis Pain Relief
I got an e-mail asking for a home remedy for arthritis pain. The first one that comes to mind is castor oil. There are a lot of people that come into Albertsons, where I work, that tell me rubbing castor oil on their joints helps relieve the pain. I have noticed they ususally refer to knee pain. I have not researched it to find out why it works, but listening to people, it must help some.
ReliefMD is what I gave my Mom to use on her hip for pain. It is a combination of essential oils in an oil base. She has been using it for a month or so and says it has lessened her need for ibuprofen.
Arthritis can also be caused by an allergy to the nightshade family of foods including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and potatoes. This can be especially helpful if you have allergies or asthma.
Always buy your supplements from stores who have the reputation of being honest and trustworthy. All too often you are not getting what you pay for. With supplements becoming a big business there are some unsavory characters out there who are very willing to take advantage of you. These companies are some I do highly recommend for quality natural health products.
P.S. Any suggestions for going through a break up?

Mar 31, 2007, A News Tidbit on Fluoride
I came across this news article and thought I had better share it with you. Arsnic and fluoride gives us some very alarming news. I have told you that the fluoride they add to water and toothpaste is not natural fluoride. It can cause a lot of lasting problems. The truth is it never leaves the body and sits in your cells and damages them. For your own protection avoid it all together. I collects in the bones and can actually cause your teeth to decay. It is a major cause of soft teeth.
A fantastic alternative to toothpaste can be found at OraMD. I use it and absolutely swear by it. My gums have become healthy again and my mouth feels clean all day. It costs less in the long run than toothpaste and will save you bucks on dentist bills. It is an oil base with essential oils that inhibit the growth of the bad bacteria. And of course there is no harmful fluoride!
If the water you drink has added fluoride, I would think about filtering it or drinking bottled water. But read the ingredients label on the bottle. The add fluoride to some brands.
At the store I work in we sell a special water for babies. This has added fluoride. Please do not feed it to your child. With all the news about the hazards maybe the FDA and our government will get smart and decide they made a bad choice in disposing of the toxic waste in our water and toothpaste. They needed somewhere to get rid of this poison so they told us it was good for our teeth. Go figure! It is a poison!
Let me know your opinion.

Mar 26, 2007, Stress Busters
The course for my degree I am working on right now is on stress. We all have it in some form or another. Of course some stress is good for you, but constant stress is not.
I really had an eye opener when I read the list of thoughts that can lead to some constant stress, depression, low self-esteem and anxiety. Of course I thought I already had it all figured out!
Some 'irrational thoughts':
1. It is an absolute necessity for an adult to have love and approval from peers, family, and friends.2. External events cause most human misery-people simply react as events trigger their emotions.3. You need something other or stronger or greater than yourself to rely on.4. The past has a lot to do with determining the present.5. Good relationships are based on mutual sacrifice and a focus on giving.6. It is bad or wrong to be selfish.7. If you do not go to great lengths to please others, they will abandon or reject you.And the list goes on and on.
The truth is we feel the way we think. And with some work we can change the way we think which will help us feel a whole lot better. meditation products can be a great help in learning to change the way we think by bringing us inside ourselves. The media tapes at the link above are fantastic tools for relaxation and awareness.
When we are living in the present moment and aware of our bodies and the way we react to certain stressors then it is easier to change the way we react. It takes time, if you are like me quite a bit of time, but you will thank yourself in the long run. It does not take long before you notice a sense of serenity within yourself. Those things that used to set you off just do not bother you anymore! You live life more fully and experience more happiness and peace. It is well worth the journey. No to mention how much healthier your body is when it is not subjected to constant stress. Constant stress is a sure way to develop health problems.
Using guided imagery is another way of changing the way we percieve life. Just imagine the way you would like to react to things that bother you. I mean really be there in your mind, see it, feel it, smell it and experience it. Let's say you get angry when the kids spill a drink on your sofa. Close your eyes, relax and see yourself reacting in a less angry way. Keep practicing and you will have changed the habit.
Pretty awsome stuff, and it may just save you a doctor bill or two! You digest the food you eat and absorb the nutrients much better if you are relaxed.

Mar 22, 2007, Cold Sore Troubles
I know people who seem to get cold sores (herpes simplex virus) with the changing of the seasons. According to Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is is a human DNA virus that causes repeated painful vesicular eruptions on the genitals and other mucosal surfaces and on the skin. After initial contact with the skin, the virus migrates along nerve fibers to sensory ganglis, where it establishes a latent infection. Under a variety of stimuli it may reappear, traveling back to the site of initial contact.
I used to get them on my lips. Any time my lips would get chapped they would show up. I used the oils from Visit amoils.com and I do not get them anymore. I have recommended it to clients and they have had the same result. No more cold sores. It seems to get rid of the virus altogether, or puts it in remission. This is great news for those that have had recurrent herpes, either on the face, lips or genitals. It works!
By the way, Spring is officially here, yeaaaaaaaa! I have been out raking the yard which will take some time. It has been a long winter with three big dogs using it as a bathroom. But I have a little fire pit that I am going to burn it and all the branches from the neighbors Willow tree that fall in my yard. It should be good fertilizer.
Hope you have been enjoying your week so far!
