Yuck! The flu season is right around the corner. I don't know anyone that likes getting that bug. The aches and nausea, the feeling like you just wish someone would shoot you and get it over with. That's what Ron told me last time he had the it! The man is not sick because has has an illness: he has an illness because he is sick. Chinese Proverb

This is my favorite brand, and believe me I have tried many. This one has 15 strains of bacteria and 35 billion live bacteria in each vegetarian capsule. These are the good bacteria that live in our gut. We need them to fight the illness causing germs that we come into contact with. During times of stress or poor health our own bacteria get out numbered by the bad. When you repopulate the good bacteria at a fast rate it helps to out number the germs before they can cause further symptoms and damage. I know many people I have told this flu fighting trick to that will swear by it. Herb remedies
I have an update to add. I just read in the Life Extentions magazine that they think the reason the flu spreads in the winter months is a deficiency of vitamin D. Makes sense to me, less sunshine, less vitamin D. They recommend taking cod liver oil in the fall and winter months. My favorite brand is Carlson, no mercury in it. A good way to find out if you need extra vitamin D is to join the Life Extention Foundation and get a very low cost blood test. Then talk with one of their doctors for free to get the results and their suggestions. About Life Extension
Elderberry- may inhibit influenza viruses from multiplying. A liquid extract or tea (tastes great) or capsules. Ginger-great for nausea, chills, and sore throats. You can use the same as above. Echinacea and goldenseal combination-may enhance the immune system. Echinacea has anti-viral properties. Oregano oil-powerful anit-viral. Vitamin C-may support the immune system by increasing white blood cells. Most people can take big doses often. The side effect of large doses is diarrhea. Garlic-probably the best anti-viral and anti-bacterial nature has to offer.

Probably the best supplement I have found for preventing viral infections is Immune Protect by Life Extension Foundation. The directions say it may be taken daily especially during the fall and winter months. It takes about five days to prime the immune system for optimal protection, so one capsule a day is recommended. If you have the flu up to 6 capsules a day can be taken as needed on a temporary basis according to Life Extensions. Life Extension Products This may work for the common cold also.
Astragalus is an herb that may be taken long term and could be great for avoiding the flu. For that matter it might work to keep us vibrant and healthy. Do not take astragalus if you have a fever. I am not a believer in the flu shot. The viruses mutate from year to year so you take a chance when you get immunized. Was it the right strain? Not to mention there is mercury in most immunizations. Of course if you are elderly or in bad health it may be a risk worth taking. Keep the flu from spreading in your household Lavender essential oil is a must in my house. I put a few drops in a squirt bottle of water and spray everything. Door knobs, light switches, bathrooms, floors, your hands. You name it, lavender spray it! Lavender is known kill the germs that cause most bacterial or viral infections. It can serve a dual purpose here. The aroma is calming. And as a bonus the air will smell great.
