Environmental Effects on the Liver

The effects of the environmental toxins we are exposed to everyday can damage the liver. This is a subject that makes me angry. The great industrial revolution has made life easier. The down side is it also contributes to liver disease. There is nothing natural about all the man made chemicals in the air we breath. That is also true with the additives in our food and especially personal care items.

Awareness in itself is healing.
Fritz Perls

A complete list of toxins that cause the liver to be sluggish would be too long for this page. I will cover just a few. These are the ones we can avoid. The environment we live in can become safer for us if we make an effort. Life Extension gets very involved with the environmental effects of our modern world. They are a group of medical doctors trying to keep us safe and healthy through nature. They do extensive research on herbs and vitamins. They also keep you up to date on the political happening in the fight for natural health freedom in the USA.

One point to ponder.

If you eat it, breath it, or put it on your skin, the liver filters it.

Everyday toxins

-Over the counter drugs-like Tylenol. Can cause liver damage or liver failure. Just an example: a man went to the hospital with liver failure caused by tylenol. The doctors didn't know what the cause was so they gave him tylenol for the pain. Guess what happened? He died of liver failure.

-Some prescription drugs-these are man made chemicals. They are foreign to the body. The liver has a hard time getting rid of them. Some of these also contain tylenol. So do over the counter medicines. Read labels.

-Toothpaste-containing floride (actually is industrial waste)

-Shampoo, conditioner-containing sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol(used in industrial cleaners and antifreeze). Any artificial colors or fragrances.

-Have you ever put a lotion on and started itching? That is most likely caused by the additives that give off formaldehyde. Which is also in the new carpet you just put in. The new furniture you just picked out. The particle board you built your house out of. All of these give off formaldehye gas that we breath everyday. It's no wonder your liver may be pickled. And you thought it was just from the wine! No it is from our environment.

-I should include cleaning supplies for our house and office. The chemicals we are exposed to at work. Especially if we work in the industrial field. The herbicides and pesticides on our lawns and food. And of course the air. Liver disease caused by the environment we live in is very common and sad. We all need to make an effort to change the mess we have created. We didn't do it intentionally, but all the same we let it happen.

So the question is, how do we avoid all of this? Read labels, read labels, read labels. If you can not pronounce it, don't buy it. Don't put it in your mouth or on your skin.

Gum Disease - Gingivitis - Bleeding Gums - Bad Breath
"Nature Provides the Best Answer" Food is the best medicine.

Don't use chemical sprays on your lawn. Learn to enjoy dandelions. The irony of that is, we try to kill the dandelions with sprays that harm us. But in all reality the dandelions are medicine to heal the problem of the spray we use! Here are some of my recommended natural home remedies.

Detoxify your liver

-Milk thistle-this wonderful herb can rid the liver of environmental toxins and also help to rebuild it. 2 capsules twice a day with food. This herb is fat soluble so include a little healthy fat in the meal.

-Milk thistle, dandelion, artichoke, licorice combination- Recommended use as described above. Just a note, these can give you diarrhea. That just means it is working.

A warning about licorice. It can cause high blood pressure. Always consult with your Healthcare Professional before using.

-Beets-just steam a lot of beets and eat them every day.

-N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC)-600 mg a day. This gem protects the liver from toxins.

-Vitamin C-1000 mg daily.

-Vitamin E-400 mg a day. A good brand with mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols is suggested.

Please do not add to the stress of the environmental toxins in your liver by eating hydrogenated oils. Processed flour and sugar can also add to the stress. Mother Nature has given us many healthy vegetables. Please take advantage of her generosity.

One other point to make about our environmental conditions. We have electric currents everywhere we can't get away from. Our heat, lights, TV's, computers, and alarm clocks are just a few of these everyday hazards. To help our bodies deal with these a Himalayan Salt Lamp helps to neutralize the ions. Ionicsalts.com I just love mine and I got one for each of my kids.

Whew! I made it through this subject without one cuss word. I know this overview is rather vague. I am afraid if I really get into the dirt of environmental effects on the liver this page would turn into a book. And probably not a very nice one. Environmental toxins that cause liver disease are everywhere. That is why we need to practice natural health care and prevention.
