Digestive health is extremely important to your overall health. When your system is sluggish, like it is when your gallbladder is not working right, you can not digest the food you eat. That means you are not getting the nutrition you need to stay healthy. Pay close attention to a digestive disorder like pain, constipation, diarhhea, or gas. It is telling you someting.

The gallbladder sits on the underside of the liver. It's function is to store bile it recieves from the liver. That bile is then sent to the small intestine by way of the cystic duct and the hepatic duct.

The purpose of bile is to digest fats. So you can see that if your duct work is all plugged up with gallstones the bile never makes it to the intestines. That means you can not digest any of the fats (good ones or bad ones) that you eat. Here are some of my recommended natural home remedies for a digestive disorder.

Remedy by Diet

-Reduce your total fat intake-especially hydrogenated oils (I can't stress that one enough, they are not good for anyone).

-Eat a wide variety of fresh vegetables.

-Avoid processed sugars (I mean read labels and get to know the names of all the different kinds of sugars they pass off under other names).

-A vegetarian diet is best for the healing process (I know some of you shudder at the thought of no meat so just cut way back. Make it your side dish, not your main course).

Remedy the disorder with supplements and herbs

-Essential Fatty Acids-1,000 mg per day actually help repair the gallbladder and prevent gallstones.

-Digestive Enzymes- Extremely important-1 to 2 capsules or tablets with each meal, depending on which supplement you use and on how much fat is in the meal.

-Alfalfa-1,000 to 2000 mg per day. Alfalfa helps cleanse the liver and gallbladder.

-Lecithin-100 mg three times a day increases the solubility of cholesterol in the bile. This should help prevent any digestive disorder.

-Peppermint oil-Taken in an enteric-coated capsule can be used to dissolve stones instead of the cleanse I gave you on the gallstones page. 1-2 capsules three times a day between meals.
