Do you want to try a home remedy for a canker sore? Canker sores or aphthous ulcers, as the doctors say, are little white bumps in a red circle and very painful. They take up residence in the mouth. I read that about 20% of the population gets them. More women than men are infected. Some people get them over and over. A home remedy for a canker sore is the best way, in my opinion, to take care of the problem. The cause is not known for sure. Some say food and/or environmental allergies. Others say stress.I would agree that if your get them repeatedly there is an underlying cause that triggers them. Gluten (a protein in grains) has been named as a culprit. There has been research on nutritional deficiencies in people with these type of sores. The results tell us we need more iron (if your are female, men should not take iron supplements without a doctors O.K.), folate, and vitamin B12. Zinc is great for healing so you may want to take extra when you have a breakout. Stress depletes our supply of the amino acid lysine. It comes in a supplement form you can take that may speed recovery. Herbal home remedy for a canker sore can help ease the pain and speed the recovery time. Some of my suggestions are: -Deglycyrrihizinated licorice (DGL)-open a capsule and put a pinch right on the sore or suck on a lozenge. This is a powerful anti-inflammatory and it may also help heal the tissue. -Myrrh essential oil-put a dropper full in a sterile gauze. Place a piece of it on the infected area 3 or 4 times a day. You might want to keep the rest of the gauze in a zip-lock baggie. This is a great antiseptic and may help heal the mouth. You can also dilute a dropper full in a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash. Make sure to swish 3 to 4 times a day. -Activated charcoal-a tablet right on the stinging spot at the first signs for 15 to 20 minutes could heal the sore. Do not be alarmed at a black mouth and your stools could be black when you go to the bathroom. -Chamomile-as a tea, and/or as a mouthwash. This helps inflammation and is also a great stress reducer. It could make you tired so choose wisely when you drink it. -Ginkgo biloba extract or tea-dab on the area with a q-tip as needed.
