Boil Compresses to Bring a Boil to a Head

Here are some recommendations for boil compresses to bring the boil to a head. These are also suggested for carbuncles: "An abscess of the skin, formed by the merger of two or more boils (furuncles)".

Medicinal boil compresses:

Simmer flax and fenugreek seeds together until soft. Mash pulp. Apply as a compress. (Linda Page)

When a boil is draining keep the skin around it clean. Shower instead of taking a bath. Make sure to wash your hands good after treating a boil. A staph bacteria (can be the cause of a boil) can cause food poisoning.

How to make boil compresses

Add 1 tsp. powdered herbs to a bowl of very hot water. Soak a washcloth and apply until the cloth cools. Have another cloth soaking in very hot water to replace the cooling one. Then apply a cloth dipped in ice water until it reaches body temperature. (Some people respond to the cold cloth and others don't. You be the judge of what works best for you.)


Using Boil compresses out of food, herbs or tea is one way to help the boil come to a head and go away. Recurring boils could mean that your immune system is not up to par. You may need to take a look at your overall health and work on it too.
